The Elk Hill’s new BEST program is launching a grandparent’s support group! This group is open to any grandparents raising their grandchildren in any Goochland County Public School. The Elk Hill’s BEST program is a pilot school based mental health program that has launched this fall at Goochland Elementary and Middle School. The funding for this program is through a grant from the Jenkins Foundation and their Non-profit donations. Their services through this program are designed to address less severe issues that impact students, whom would not qualify for their TDT services, and provide earlier behavioral and mental health support to students in these schools.
The grandparents who may benefit or be interested in attending this group DO NOT have to have students/children enrolled in Elk Hill’s TDT or Best program. They also plan on running a group for the students simultaneously, and that is why they need to survey ages and also address/assess childcare needs. There is a large population of grandparents raising their grandchildren in Goochland County for various reasons. This group was developed, due to the limited resources available for these families in Goochland County. There is no cost to their participants.
Please feel free to email the BEST Clinician Cinda Caeilla LMFT at firstname.lastname@example.org or call Ann Abell, LCSW at 804-457-4866 ext. 323. They are hoping to get enough interest and confirm a start date to begin this Fall.
