Celebrate Computer Science Education Week at Goochland Elementary School!

Goochland Elementary School is excited to join the celebration of Computer Science Education Week from December 9-15! This week, we dove into the exciting world of technology and innovation, while highlighting the importance of being safe and responsible digital citizens.

Why Computer Science Education Matters Computer science is more than coding and computers; it’s about critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. By exploring computer science, our students are preparing for the future and learning skills that will empower them in our increasingly digital world. Governor Glenn Youngkin’s official proclamation recognizes the vital role of computer science education in shaping the workforce of tomorrow and fostering innovation across Virginia.

You can read Governor Youngkin’s full proclamation here.

What Happened at Goochland Elementary During this special week, our students :

  • Participated in hands-on activities during Library that included basic coding and programming concepts.

  • Engaged in discussions about digital citizenship, focusing on staying safe, respectful, and kind online.

  • Explored how technology impacts our everyday lives and how we can use it responsibly.

Families, you are encouraged to explore online coding platforms or have conversations about safe internet practices at home.

Together, let’s celebrate the innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders of tomorrow. Computer science opens doors to a world of possibilities, and we’re thrilled to inspire our students to explore this exciting field.

Happy Computer Science Education Week!
