From September 15–October 15, Goochland Elementary School is joining the nationwide celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month! This is a time to recognize and honor the diverse cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.
In the library, students are diving into powerful and inspiring stories, including:
Ada’s Violin: The Story of the Recycled Orchestra of Paraguay – the true story of children who create music from recycled materials.
My Papi Has a Motorcycle – a joyful celebration of family, community, and love.
Biblioburro: A True Story from Colombia – the story of a traveling library that brings books to children in remote villages.
Lucia the Luchadora – a fun, empowering tale of bravery and imagination.
These books help our students connect with cultures and experiences from across the Spanish-speaking world while also celebrating themes of resilience, creativity, and community.
But the celebration doesn’t stop in the library! 🥳 ALL families are invited to our StoryWalk right in front of the school. As you stroll along, you’ll read a special Hispanic Heritage story page by page. It’s a fun way to get moving, reading, and celebrating together!
At GES, we otter-ly love learning about different cultures, sharing stories, and celebrating what makes our world so wonderfully diverse. 💙🐾
