Goochland County Public Schools is proud to announce that Goochland Elementary School has been named a winner of the 2025 CMAA Project Achievement Award in the category of Education: Construction Value Less Than $50 Million.
Presented annually by the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), these national awards recognize outstanding achievement in the management and delivery of construction projects across the country. Goochland Elementary is one of only 15 projects nationwide to receive this prestigious honor and is now a finalist for CMAA’s 2025 Project of the Year Award.
The new Goochland Elementary School, which opened in 2024, represents a significant investment and partnership in the future of the community. Goochland County voters overwhelmingly passed a bond referendum on November 2, 2021, to allow Goochland County to issue General Obligation Bonds for the new school, with over 85 percent of voters approving of the bond funding option. The project was subsequently funded by Goochland County and managed by MBP, which was hired by Goochland County Public Schools to provide project management services throughout design and construction. Designed with input from staff, families, and community members, the school features flexible, modern learning spaces that promote collaboration, creativity, and engagement.
“This recognition from CMAA is a tremendous honor for our community,” said Superintendent Andrew Armstrong. “Our new elementary school reflects Goochland’s shared commitment to excellence in education, creation of learning environments that inspire both students and teachers, and our responsible stewardship of resources. We are proud of what this project represents for our school division and our county.”
Goochland County Administrator Dr. Jeremy Raley highlighted the collaboration that made the project possible. “The construction of Goochland Elementary School is a shining example of what can happen when a community comes together around a shared vision,” Raley said. “This award reflects the strong partnership between our School Board, Board of Supervisors, staff, and residents—all working together to provide best in class facilities for our students, staff, and families.”
Goochland Elementary School Principal Tina McCay added, “The school’s design embodies a vision of connection to nature, with open spaces and abundant natural light. Every detail was crafted with students in mind, creating a bright, functional environment that fosters learning, creativity, and community. This award is a testament to the thoughtful planning that makes our school such a special place to learn and grow.”
MBP Project Manager Ryan Waldrop, noted the strong collaboration behind the project’s success. “From the very beginning, this project was built on teamwork and a shared vision,” Waldrop said. “Goochland County Public Schools and the entire project team were committed to creating a space that would truly serve its students and the community for generations. This recognition from CMAA is a reflection of that dedication.”
Goochland Elementary School is now in the running for CMAA’s Project of the Year Award — and the entire community can help bring the honor home to Goochland! Voting is open to the public, project teams, and partners through Monday, October 20 at 12:00 PM.
