At Goochland Elementary School, we believe in showing kindness and gratitude — especially to those who have served our country. In honor of Veterans Day, our students have been learning about the meaning of this important holiday and finding heartfelt ways to thank the veterans in our community.
Earlier this fall, during our first Lodge Day on October 24, students focused on Kindness Toward Veterans. Lodges read books to learn more about Veterans Day and the sacrifices made by service members. Together, our Otters assembled over 100 care packages for patients at the VA Hospital and created cards and artwork to share messages of appreciation and encouragement.
This week, students will have the opportunity to meet local veterans during library classes and enjoy stories read by guest readers from the American Legion Auxiliary. These special visits help students make meaningful connections and understand the impact of service and sacrifice.

To visually show our gratitude, over 150 American flags are displayed in front of the school — a beautiful reminder of the many veterans connected to our GES family. Families are also invited to visit our StoryWalk to enjoy a special Veterans Day story together as they reflect on the importance of service and appreciation.

At GES, we are proud to honor our veterans and to teach our students the importance of respect, kindness, and gratitude.
