As we prepare for an upcoming winter storm, we want to take a moment to share our support with all of our families. Storms like this can bring uncertainty, and our hope is that everyone is able to stay safe, warm, and cared for in the days ahead.
Please remember that your family’s well-being comes first. Do what you need to do to feel prepared and comfortable, and take things one moment at a time.
If weather conditions or power outages keep you indoors, this time at home can also offer chances for quiet connection and comfort. Simple activities—talking, reading together, playing games, or creating art—can help children feel calm and secure.
When it feels right and circumstances allow, students are encouraged to continue reading our Goochland Reads book: The Greatest Gift. Even a few minutes of shared reading can be a soothing routine and a familiar part of the day. There is no expectation to keep a strict schedule—please do what works best for your family.
Learning can also happen naturally through everyday moments. Counting items, cooking together, or playing board and card games can gently support math, communication, and problem-solving skills while spending time together.
Our Therapy Dog, Lettie, has also been thinking of our students. She has created some special coloring pages that can offer a calming and creative activity during quiet winter days.

Please know that we are thinking of you and your families during this storm. Take care of one another, stay safe, and know that flexibility and compassion guide all expectations during severe weather.
