With the opening of the new Goochland Elementary School and the revision of elementary school attendance boundaries, GCPS put together a group of school staff, division staff, family members, and a student to explore a mascot, logo, and school colors for the new school. With the importance of the James River to the community and the cute and playful characteristics of an otter, the group believed that a river otter fit the spirit of the new school and its students and staff. And, after several meetings, the group enthusiastically adopted the River Otter as the school’s new mascot! An otterly cute logo was developed using the new school colors of seafoam green, navy blue, and gold, and the GES River Otter was born!

The 7th annual GEF essay contest sponsored by The Rotary Club of Goochland is officially starting up! The essay contest is open to all 4th and 5th grade students and this year there will be 3 prizes at each school:
Most Creative - $100
Best Constructed - $100
Best Supports the Topic - $100
The essays should be 500 words or fewer and the submissions are due March 1st, 2024. The essay template and submission form can be found here: goochlandschools.org/gef-essay
The question for this year is: What is your biggest fear in life? Describe what you are afraid of and why. Has anything happened in your life that has made you feel this way?
